I use different styles of writing to contrast the marks and texture they make, and to reference teh history of writing. The words carry meaning, but the meaning is secondary to line and textrue.
One thing I think of when I view this work is graffiti...not one specific work that may stand out, but a combination of layers of graffiti that one might see on an urban wall or in a subway or bathroom...to me their seems to be no main focal point which allows the work to represent the mundane...I think a series of these works would be very interesting artifacts of the present time...
ReplyDeleteUnderpainting as finished work, mono type, working into a ground by removing material come to mind as ideas and technique.
ReplyDeleteAndrew and Mary, thanks for these comments. The terms you use are very helpful in making me think of directions in which to take my work.
